NCUFC Awards 2026 Legacy Tree Fund Grants to the Town of Conetoe and the Town of Enfield

Projects make significant environmental investment in historically underserved towns
The North Carolina Urban Forest Council (NCUFC) has awarded its 2026 Legacy Tree Fund Grants to the Town of Conetoe and the Town of Enfield for community tree planting projects.
Both projects also make significant environmental investments in historically underserved small towns in some of the state’s most economically distressed counties and will directly benefit town residents of all ages.
“North Carolina's urban trees provide all the benefits that motivate people to visit, move to, and invest in our communities,” said NCUFC Executive Director Kim Strazisar. “We are proud to provide Legacy Tree Fund grants to help improve shade, beautification, recreation, and meeting places in the Towns of Conetoe and Enfield.”
The Town of Conetoe will use their grant to plant trees on its Town Hall Walking Trail and in its Community Park. This project will improve both public parks operated by the Town and was derived from years of planning and community engagement to improve recreation opportunities and neighborhood conditions in Conetoe.
The Town of Enfield will use its grant to improve its Park & Recreation Facility – its largest and most centrally located park, nestled within a revitalizing residential neighborhood. The facility includes a large playground, walking trail, ball field, basketball courts, and a community building.
The Legacy Tree Fund is North Carolina Urban Forest Council's flagship grant program. Established in 2010, this annual program helps urban and rural communities across North Carolina implement their tree-planting projects. Past recipients include community groups, civic associations, block clubs, garden clubs, and other non-profit organizations. The Legacy Tree Fund is primarily supported through grants and donations.
