2009 "Hero For A Day"
arborist service day

Volunteers from across North Carolina gathered on November 21, 2009, to tend to the trees of historic Old Salem in Winston-Salem. Robbie King, director of facilities for Old Salem said, "Thanks to everyone for their generosity of time, materials, and spirit."
Al Harris, Mile Marker Images photographer and NCUFC member, donated his talents. Click on this link to see a slideshow of the day's people and events. You may also view the gallery of photos here.
It was a perfect day to enjoy Skip Warrick's delicious rib feast at lunchtime. Skip is owner of Scottree and Shelby Nursery. He is also a former NCUFC board member. While Skip did the cooking, we want to send a special thank you to Asplundh who generously sponsored our lunch costs.
We were thrilled to have tree-planting volunteers from Winston-Salem State University. We were highly impressed at these college students who joined us at 7:30am and worked through the morning.
In addition to his crew working on other sites in Old Salem, David Lusk of Lusk Tree Service helped NCUFC conduct its first-ever workshop in conjunction with our annual service day. He discussed and demonstrated young-tree pruning.
Please join us in thanking these heroes: David Lusk, Tanner Lusk, Arnold Speas, Eric Muecke, Traci Porter, James Mitchell, Desmond Wiggan, Stephen Joyce, Tammy Teague, Richard Hollar, Steve Swaim, Matt Lynch, Walt Hutchins, Derek Renegar, Larry R.
