The NC Urban Forest Council is excited to announce its first ESL tree care workshop for Spanish-speaking individuals. This workshop is meant to be the first in a continued series that will present important safety and proper tree care information to individuals in the tree care, or related, field whose first or primary language is Spanish. Attendees will hear from experts in the field and learn important tree care techniques. Spanish version tree care educational materials will also be made available to the attendees.

Please note: The entire workshop will be presented in the Spanish language.

8:00 - 8:30 a.m. Registration, Welcome, Introduction


8:30 - 10:00 a.m. Basic Chainsaw Safety and Chainsaw Operation
Jose Peralta Nova, Bartlett Tree Experts
Jose will demonstrate the use of the rationale for using proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in chainsaw operation. He will also identify chainsaw safety features and proper safety
procedures for chainsaw operation, explaining reaction forces of the chainsaw, kick back avoidance techniques and procedures, proper ground starting procedures of a chainsaw, and
demonstrate cutting under tension and or compression.

10:30 a.m. - 12:00 Proper Tree Installation and Early Care
Dr. Barbara Fair, NC State University
Dr. Barbara Fair will demonstrate research-based techniques for the installation and staking of woody plant materials. She will also cover early tree care recommendations.
