8:30 – 9:00 a.m.  Registration and Welcome
9:00 – 10:00 a.m.  The basics of soil: From science to real world applications
In this session you will be introduced or reintroduced to what makes soil soil and how this science stuff applies to what you do with soil in the field.

10:00 – 11:00 a.m.  Flexi-pave / Case studies and local examples
Roman will discuss how pavement material research, cost comparisons, and maintenance considerations led to the selection of Flexi-Pave in two case studies involving trails, parking spaces, and a learning exhibit.  Aguilar will explaing the the design and installation processes for an updated sidewalk and right-of-way tree replacement project at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center.  She also will discuss flexi-pave's use along a path at the Tuckaseegee Arboretum and Gardens.

You will get some tips in this session to take those problem sites and make the soils work for you to encourage the growth of trees for the long term.

Learn what researchers recommend for soil management and which of these new prescriptive treatments will likely yield the best outcomes for your clients.

2:15 – 3:00 p.m.  Soil management during construction: A municipal perspective
We will explore practices that help preserve the soil profile of urban forests and improve the chances of tree longevity.
