Spotted lanternfly was recently detected in Carroll County, VA, due north of the Yadkin Valley in North Carolina. We will discuss the invasion history, biology, and management tactics to deal with this pest in North Carolina.

10:00 - 11:00 a.m. - Summer in the City: Climate change and urban forest pests

As predicted trends associated with climate change impact urban trees, insect and disease pests that attack them will also be affected. Learn more about potential impacts and mitigation strategies in a warming climate.
11:00 - 12:00 p.m. - Pests and Insects in the Urban Canopy
Dr. Kevin Chase, Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories
Dr. Chase will explain the common pests affecting NC tree canopies and landscapes, such as scales, aphids, caterpillars, bark beetles, and other wood boring insects. He will also provide an update on the spread and control of emerald ash borer.
